We'll miss seeing the faces around the neighborhood that we've grown to know through the years. We thank you for the continued support and looking forward to seeing you again in the near future.
]]>On what felt like the last sunny day of the year, we chanced upon Alicia Schultz ( @vineandthistle ) as she and friends Leah Samour ( @landoflulu ) and Julz Clementine ( @julzclementine ) were putting the finishing touches on her new mural to celebrate the 132nd anniversary of Miller Paint at their flagship location in SE Portland. The project is in partnership with the Portland Street Art Alliance.
Alicia is wearing the Tobin Utility Overall with the Innes top.
The trio was kind enough to let us outfit them in their favorite Bridge & Burn pieces, and we documented them as they updated this Portland landmark. Ernest Miller , the founder, arrived to Portland from Germany in 1885. Ernest was a muralist and scenic artist who painted houses on the side, and he was unhappy with the paints that were available at the time.
He believed the quality did not stand up to the demands of the Northwest weather, and like many other enterprising immigrants of the time he built a solution.
In 1890, Miller purchased a stone mill in a barn on Northeast San Raphael Street and began manufacturing his own paints. His products were of such good quality that other paint contractors came to him to ask if they could use “Ernest Miller Paint”. Just like that, the Miller Paint Co. was born and the business has stood the tests of time.

We are proud to be one of the select retailers carrying premium socks from ROTOTO. These socks are made in Japan’s largest sock producing region, Nara Prefecture. The area has been known for its quality textile since around the 17th century. Industrial sock production was first introduced to the area in 1910, when a man from Koryocho brought a sock weaving machine home on his return from the U.S. after completing studies there. As textile weaving declined and people’s life style changed with time, sock production was gradually developed in the area as a new industry. With such a background, the local people in the region still call sock knitting as ‘sock weaving.’
With such a rich history in manufacturing ROTOTO places high value on collaborating with the craftsmen who preserve this tradition and history. They often start new stock development with selecting the right yarns for a design from a huge number of options, and then develop a new material that is made of a blend of selected yarns with help of these craftsmen. After that, they choose a knitting machine to use according to the type of material and the usage of the product. Options include rare machines for specialty use, old-style non-computerized knitters and latest hi-tech machines. To make an ideal pair of socks, exchanging opinions with skilled craftsmen is as important as using the right machine depending on a product.
These socks come in great colors, textures and each pair is made with Japanese craftsmanship, utilizing unique and unexpected materials. We’ve been wearing ROTOTO socks for years and their comfort and durability are unrivaled. We’ve tested them on long hikes through the Cascade mountains and enjoyed relaxing in house socks while vacationing on the Pacific coast; the choice of materials and quality of construction means they are tough and comfortable enough for all-day wear.
Treat yourself to a pair and they also make the perfect gift.

It shifts and changes throughout the day as the environment and activities that are reflected around it change.” - Architects & Nebbia Works Co-Founders, Madhav Kidao and Brando Posocco

"I was thinking about the onset of autumn, which is often a time of reflection after the summer months. I chose songs with groove, with quiet moments, with bursts of angst and energy and desire. I wanted the sonic elements to wrestle with a multitude of feeling, to swing for the highs and conjure the lows, and to allow contemplation. If nothing else, it’s a soundtrack for crisp leaves underfoot, the damp cold seeping in, and being alone without being lonely." - Carrie Brownstein

]]>To celebrate our latest release of graphic tees in collaboration artist, Real Fun, Wow! we sat down with Daren Thomas Magee to chat about what he's been up to and where he draws inspiration from.
What have you been doing to stay creatively inspired or energized these days?
I started a meditation practice this year, it definitely has helped me stay a lot more centered and grounded. I have a 3 year old who drains a lot of my energy and I haven't found a way to replenish that yet so I have been producing a lot less than I have over the past few years but it's a worthwhile trade-off no doubt.
Where did you draw inspiration for the new line of tees?
I love camping. I love the solitude that the space provides. I recently went for a solo trip to about an hour north of me and had, what felt like, 100 miles to myself. There, over a morning cup of coffee, I dug in.
What's a song or album that's been on your mind lately?
The album Hypertension by William Onyebor
Thanks for taking some time to share a few thoughts with us, Daren! Check our our latest release of men's & women's graphic tees.
