An Interview With Artist CDR

To celebrate the release of our newest tees designed by Portland, ME artist, Christopher David Ryan (aka CDR), we chatted with him about staying inspired, and finding the silver linings in more time at home.

What have you been doing to stay creatively inspired or energized these days?

I saw a post on Instagram today that went something like “If you obsess on how things ought to be, then you might miss how things actually are.” This is what energizes me and feeds my creativity… the way things ARE. Yes, times are hard. The world seems like it’s falling apart. But… wow… just look at all this… existence. So incredible. Not a day goes by when I don’t spend time marveling at the idea that all of IT just IS. And, I don’t know what it is. What could be more inspiring than IT?

Where did you draw inspiration for the new line of tees?
Bare Feet, Trees, Waves, Rocks, Sand, Sun, Moon, Sky, Earth, Sumerian Symbols.

What have you been listening to recently?
“Fools Harp” by Fools
“Wave Notation” by Hiroshi Yakamura
“Peace Piece” by Bill Evans
“A Love Supreme” by John Coltrane
“Stages” by The Electric Soft Parade
“All Things Being Equal” by Sonic Boom

Any highlights of or surprise silver linings to being home-bound?
Long walks in the neighborhood.
Pillow fort books nooks with my kids.
The hope that we are finally going to realize that we can do things differently, collectively, in a better way… if we want to.
