This month's Beats & Burn was inspired by a month spent in LA for our most recent pop-up store. There, we were lucky to meet and hang out with Aquarium Drunkard's Justin Gage, and visual artist, Allison Kunath. Both have put their creative mark on the LA art scene and were happy to share a little bit of SoCal in September with us through this month's music mix and cover art.
Based in Los Angeles, Justin Gage is the founder of the audio discovery site Aquarium Drunkard, Autumn Tone Records and is the host/program director behind the eclectic weekly Aquarium Drunkard show on SIRIUS XMU. He also works as a music supervisor for film and television. His next feature, Shangri-LA Suite, hits theaters globally this fall.
What inspired this autumnal mixtape? "A recent sit at the Chief's Peak tavern in Ojai, CA where I spotted one of my favorite Crosby records on Vinyl. That first track set the tone and the rest flowed from there."
Venice Beach based visual artist Allison Kunath paints as a visual journal to explore her favorite parts of being alive: connection and communication. When asked to pick some art for an LA in September playlist, she told us, "I grew up in Minnesota, and I've got a real appreciation for LA's endless summer that's really just hitting it's stride in September. Wetsuits > snowsuits."
Allison will be featured in the next Bridge Burner profile. Coming soon on the blog.
