Beats & Burn Volume 28 - Reverse Couple-Skate

Beats & Burn Volume 28 - Reverse Couple-Skate

Picture yourself in a backyard, sun shining, cold beverage in hand, no work tomorrow, friends all around, burgers sizzling on the grill. Pretty great. Now picture it with the perfect 60's and 70's era, genre-defying, jam-heavy soundtrack. Totally amazing. DJs Aaron & Cheyenne of Reverse Couple-Skate brought us the ideal mix for Memorial Day weekend activities, restful and restless alike.

This is the 28th volume of our monthly Beats & Burn series, a collaboration with Portland's local, independent radio station XRAY.fm.

About the mix:

“May brings to mind the transition from spring to summer and memories of endless sun-soaked days. This summertime mix shines a light into various dusty, forgotten and overlooked corners of pop music from the 60s and 70s, showcasing cosmic country, psychedelic soul & more. There’s a restlessness that unites these songs: the protagonists are running, driving, searching, shifting & always moving.”

More about Aaron & Cheyenne:

Aaron & Cheyenne have co-hosted Reverse Couple-Skate on XRAY.fm since 2014. Tune in to the show every Saturday from 8-9am to hear a wide variety of music, from the genre-defining to the genre-defying, with an emphasis on the music of the 60s and 70s.

About the art:

"The piece of work was inspired by the upcoming season, summer. I am originally from Bulgaria and I have not been back home for almost five years. This upcoming summer, I will be traveling there for a few weeks where I will get to visit the Black Sea like I did when I was a young girl. I love swimming and being in the water. Unfortunately, here we don't have a sea we can swim in, but we do have a beautiful river. We are also very lucky with the beautiful pink sunsets we get here in Portland.”

More about Mirela:

"I have always been an artist that enjoys minimal pieces of work. I strive to make my own designs very simple, geometric, yet also impactful. I am a student at Portland State University [and] am about 3 weeks away from receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design. Currently, I am working on a self initiated project of simple city illustrations from around the world thateither I would like to travel to or have traveled to. In addition to this, I am also preparing my portfolio for the PSU Graphic Design showcase."
